GoldenEye is 17th film in the James Bond series and the first to star Pierce Brosnan as 007. Legal issues and the death of long time Bond screenwriter, Richard Maibaum, caused delays that lasted for several years before the film was released in 1995, six years after the previous film Licence to Kill. In this film, Bond is tasked with recovering the title object which controls Russian space satellites capable of generating electromagnetic pulses (EMP) in Earth's upper atmosphere, disabling all electronic equipment. The film also stars Sean Bean, Izabella Scorupco, Judi Dench (in her first appearance as Bond's superior, M), Famke Janssen, Joe Don Baker and Alan Cumming.
