We Were Soldiers is a 2002 film about the 1965 Battle of the Ia Drang Valley, the first official engagement between United States and North Vietnamese Army soldiers of the Vietnam War. It stars Mel Gibson, Greg Kinnear, Madeline Stowe, Josh Brolin, Keri Russell and Sam Elliott.
